Spaghetti Western 2023
Walker Vineyards — Texas High Plains
100% Sangiovese | 205 cases produced

Vintage & Vineyard Context

The 2023 growing season across the Texas High Plains showcased the resilience of this region’s vineyards. A cool, wet spring refreshed the soils and canopy after years of drought pressure, setting the stage for balanced growth. As summer advanced, persistent heat and wind accelerated ripening, resulting in smaller berries with excellent concentration and natural acidity.

Walker Vineyards, situated at elevation and exposed to strong diurnal shifts, delivered Sangiovese of remarkable intensity and character. The fruit achieved full phenolic ripeness under careful canopy management and selective picking — capturing both the savory depth and red-fruited vibrancy emblematic of the variety.

The season demanded precision and restraint, and the result is a wine that reflects both the rugged terrain and the patient hand of its growers.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Bright red fruit — cherry, raspberry, and cranberry — lifted by spice tones of cinnamon. Beneath, subtle notes of ropa vieja, sunbaked clay, and a hint of dusty leather saddle evoke the wine’s earthy, western spirit.

Palate: light to Medium-bodied and expressive, with lively acidity and fine tannins framing flavors of red currant, tomato leaf, and warm spice.

Finish: Long, graceful, and savory — with a lingering sense of warmth and texture that nods to both Tuscany and Texas.

Food Pairings

Spaghetti Western 2023 pairs beautifully with both rustic and refined fare:

  • Tomato-based pastas, particularly with herbs or grilled vegetables

  • Braised short ribs or Tuscan-style beef stew (peposo)

  • Grilled lamb with rosemary and garlic

  • Aged cheeses such as Asiago, Pecorino, or Parmigiano-Reggiano

  • Smoky or spice-accented dishes — think chile-rubbed pork tenderloin or fire-roasted mushrooms

A wine made for good company, good food, and a little new boot goofin’.
